Rapunzel Auditions!!

Posted on November 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM

Walpole Children's Theatre is thrilled to announce our upcoming production of Rapunzel, written by Karen Boettcher-Tate and Directed by Jess McNamara

Performances will be held February 24 through March 4, 2023 at Walpole Footlighters Playhouse

All rehearsals and performances will be in-person. The show is around 90 minutes, with a cast size of approximately 20.

Children aged 10-20 are welcome to audition. No experience required and no fees to participate! Walpole Children's Theatre has been putting on high quality shows since 1969. Theatre is a great way for kids to gain confidence, develop their public speaking skills, and put on best-in-class performances!

We are holding auditions in-person, but we encourage auditionees to register beforehand.

Rene Shwartzbuckle is cuckoo for a turnip-like vegetable called rapunzel. When she spots a mouth-watering patch of the plant in Witch Izwitch’s garden, she sends her husband Walt out to ’borrow’ some. Witch Izwitch is certainly not amused! With her diabolical henchmen, the Glumpwarts, she terrorizes Walt into promising her his firstborn child in exchange for his freedom. We then jump ahead many years to Rapunzel (now you know where the name comes from!) Shwartzbuckle’s 18th birthday. The witch and the Glumpwarts show up as promised and whisk poor, innocent Rapunzel away to a tower in the forest. From here, a boisterously entertaining rescue attempt begins! (The technical aspects of ’hair climbing’ are handled quite simply.) Can Prince Llewellyn persevere over the powers of evil? Filled with plenty of action and fresh, hysterical characters (such as the sages Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme!), this show gives a new twist to an old story and a gentle message about the nature of beauty.

Letter WCT President

Posted on January 11, 2019 at 7:50 PM
Dear patrons, This year marks our 50th anniversary here at Walpole Children's Theatre. I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for your support over the years. We at W.C.T. strive to provide quality, affordable family entertainment for the community, and theatrical education for the children who participate in our productions. You, the audience, have allowed us to do just that for the last half century, and for that we are truly grateful! W.C.T. is an all volunteer, non-profit organization. The many people who work so hard to bring our productions to the stage do so because they believe in what we do, and they contribute their amazing talents out of the goodness of their own hearts. Unlike similar groups, we do not charge the kids who perform in our shows. We feel strongly that ability to pay shouldn't be a factor in whether or not a child is able to participate in W.C.T. The majority of the funds we need to operate come directly from ticket sales. Over the years, we have tried to keep our shows as affordable as possible. Unfortunately, our expenses, like everyone else's, continue to increase year after year, and this season we find it necessary to increase our ticket prices for the first time in a decade. This small increase will help us bring our income in line with our expenses, and hopefully help us to operate for the next 50 years, and beyond! Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Paul MacPhee President, Walpole Children's Theatre
